Harvey Weinstein Hints at Surprise Additions to the Django Unchained Cast

Harvey Weinstein

Although much fuss has been made about the The Weinstein Company’s private Django Unchained screening at Cannes, very little has been reported about the comments Harvey Weinstein made about the film. According to Weinstein, Django Unchained is in production for another month, and that Tarantino might be adding some “surprise co-stars” to the film. No word on who these co-stars are or what role they will play, as that would obviously ruin the surprise.

Now Harvey Weinstein is well-known for blowing things out of proportion just to get more attention, so take this news with a grain of a salt. If there are indeed “surprise co-stars,” they’re probably only going to show up in small roles or cameos since there’s only one month of production left. My personal guess is that these “co-stars” are probably actors from the old Westerns and blaxploitation flicks that Tarantino loves so much. Considering Tarantino gave Franco Nero, the original Django, a cameo in this film, I’m fully expecting to see more old icons show up on the screen.

The big news at Cannes is that The Weinstein Company held a private screening featuring 7-8 minutes of footage from Django Unchained. Rather than doing a massive cut-and-paste job about what was included in the screening, I’m going to link to what I feel are the best and most descriptive reviews of the footage. Reading these articles should give you a very good idea of what to expect from this film. These reviews and descriptions are spoiler-free.

Ain’t It Cool News — Lighthearted review from a film geek (my favorite review of the bunch).

Empire Online — Straightforward and very descriptive synopsis of the footage.

Oh No They Didn’t! — Round-up of online reactions to the footage.
